Nyasaland takes its name from the colonial-era territory that is now Malawi, where it was grown and selected before spreading to neighboring highlands. Genetically it sits among the older Ethiopian-descended landraces and is valued for a balanced, approachable cup with gentle acidity. Growers on high-altitude slopes favor it for its tidy, honeyed sweetness and mild stone-fruit character. It remains a relatively uncommon find outside its home regions.
