Selected by farmers around Urrao, Antioquia, and named for its slender, elongated beans, Chiroso was assumed for years to be a local Caturra mutation. Genetics reclassified it as an Ethiopian-derived landrace — and the cup had been saying so all along: white florals, honey, lemon and black tea, closer to a washed Yirgacheffe than to its Colombian neighbours. A Cup of Excellence winner that turned a small Antioquian town into a variety's home address.
