Ruiru 11 was released by Kenya's Coffee Research Station in 1985 as a dwarf hybrid resistant to coffee berry disease and leaf rust. Its compact stature allows dense planting, making it popular with smallholders needing dependable harvests. Cup quality was once considered inferior to the SL selections, though improved seed lines have narrowed the gap. It tends toward moderate acidity with citrus and berry notes.
