Batian was released in 2010 by Kenya's Coffee Research Institute, named after the highest peak of Mount Kenya. Bred for resistance to coffee berry disease and leaf rust, it also matures faster and delivers cup quality closer to the classic SL varieties than earlier hybrids like Ruiru 11. It grows tall and productive, appealing to farmers seeking both yield and quality. Cups show bright citrus acidity and berry sweetness.
